Focus, Efficency & Effort

2013 is finally here and for me it heralds the start of training for The Horseman; an inaugural triathlon over Dartmoor. My Xmas present from my ever suffering and soon to be triathlon widow was a garmin GPS so I can keep better track of my training and make the most of my time available. Must mean that she loves me and wants to see a bit more of me!
Seriously though, if you have a goal for 2013, and it doesn’t matter what it is, make sure you approach it the right way. Make the most of your time when working towards it. Be efficient so that you have time for the other important things in your life and achieve a balance that will make you look back in 1 years time and smile. Knowing that you achieved that goal and didn’t sacrifice everything to get it and that others were not disadvantaged in the process has got to be a start.
So for me, 2013 will be about;
– FOCUS, not only on my impending death by drowning (as you can guess with that statement, the swim is not my strongest or favourite leg!) but also on the business & the needs of my clients. I still believe that every session should be excellent at the very least but that my clients goals should always be at the forefront of my mind when planning their sessions. I also aim to focus on my family. The first few years of any business is hard work and I know that at times it has been the priority over other things but 2013 is the time to make small changes so that family time is family time without the distractions!
– EFFICIENCY, how can you focus 100% on more than one thing? Easy, allocate the time to that project or item and during that time do everything you can for it. Work efficiently in order to maximise that time. It will require planning, research in some cases and adopting new practices so that you eek the maximum amount of work from your time. Seek help if you need it- there is no harm in asking for a little help now and again especially if it makes you more efficient! Satisfy yourself that you could have fitted in no more then switch your focus to your next item. Takes practice, but it works.
– EFFORT, none of the above will happen by itself. Self discipline and drive will make you achieve what you need. 1440 minutes in a day, use them wisely! Sleep for 6-8 hours and the rest of the day is yours. Spend that time wisely. Look after yourself and those you care about. Take time to laugh every day even if it is at yourself. And achieve your goals and aims every day. Motivate yourself by envisioning your end state and how you’ll feel when you get there.
So, 2013…. HERE WE GOOOOOO!
